Supervising in the Public Sector is a two-day intensive certificate program designed to deliver essential leadership development for new and experienced supervisors in government.
Supervisors shape the employee experience—their actions directly influence morale, engagement and performance across government. As agencies face challenges with retention, morale and limited resources, effective leaders are essential to keeping employees supported, accountable and productive.
The Supervising in the Public Sector intensive equips supervisors and leaders with the tools, mindset, and confidence to lead with purpose and impact. Grounded in public service values, it helps leaders build self-awareness, strengthen communication, and foster accountability and team performance—ensuring agencies deliver on their mission to the communities they serve.
Drawing on the Partnership’s 20 years of experience developing government leaders, this highly interactive program reflects the realities of public sector leadership. Through real-world case studies, practical discussions, and peer learning, participants immediately apply new skills to their work—enhancing their ability to lead effectively, navigate complexity and drive meaningful results.

How to Apply
Completed applications must include your personal information, professional experience and objectives, up-to-date resume and supervisor endorsement form. Carefully consider your short-answer responses to ensure your government career objectives align with our high expectations of participants.
You do not need to complete the application in one session; you may save your application and return to it later.
Please note, many agencies have specific application guidelines for their employees. Before submitting your application, please make sure that you are following your agency’s internal guidelines and that you have permission from your agency’s leadership to participate in this program.
Program Overview
This is a two-day intensive certificate program for new and seasoned supervisors and leaders in government. By the end of the program, participants will:
- Understand how emotional intelligence positively impacts and builds a more cohesive team.
- Gain skills in creating mutual accountability and giving feedback.
- Increase their confidence in managing conflict and having difficult conversations.
- Learn strategies for motivating employees through challenging times.
Time Commitment
The program includes 45-minutes of asynchronous pre-learning and 2 days of live programming. The in-person program runs 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET and the virtual program runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET. You are expected to be present and engaged for the duration of the session and complete all pre-work.

Tailored Agency Cohorts
This program can also be delivered to groups within a given agency, with content tailored towards the specific challenges, culture and mission of your locality, department or office. Agency cohorts can be delivered virtually or in person or at your location, and we will partner with you to select dates. A cohort of up to 30 participants is priced at $20,000.
