To build a better government and a stronger democracy.

Our Vision

We envision a dynamic and innovative federal government that effectively serves our diverse nation.

A well-functioning federal government is essential to our democracy. No other institution has the resources, authority and responsibility to serve the public interest and meet the myriad of challenges facing our country.

Yet despite many achievements on our behalf, our government sometimes falls short in meeting these critical responsibilities. Moreover, recent efforts to dramatically reshape the management and operations of the government have undercut its ability to meet our collective needs in unprecedented ways.

For 25 years, the Partnership for Public Service has been the leading nonprofit working to build a government that can live up to its promise as our most important public institution.

Working across five administrations, we focus not on whether government should be bigger or smaller, but on how we can make it better. No matter the political environment, we serve as a bridge across the political aisle and as a conduit between sectors to help ensure our government meets its main responsibilities to the public.

Today, with the core functions and purpose of government under threat, our nonpartisan mission has never been more critical. Building on our deep expertise, we are advancing three priorities that seek to protect the integrity and capability of our government while making it more responsive, effective and accountable.

First, we are engaging the public about the value of government and how its erosion harms us all. Through this work, we seek to hold those in power accountable for strengthening our government and supporting its workforce.

Second, with a broad coalition of stakeholders, we are developing and advocating for bold reforms that will transform the way our government works. Together, our plans and recommendations offer an alternative to proposals that seek to undermine, not improve, the way our federal institutions operate.

Third, we are supporting, developing and training civil servants, offering current and former federal employees resources and guidance to navigate pressures on the civil service, create positive change in government or transition out of the federal sector. Our many programs equip leaders in federal, state and local government with the skills to meet the unique responsibilities of leading in public service.

These are not partisan issues. In a complex world of evolving challenges, we all deserve a government that serves our interests and meets our needs.
