We work with policymakers, practitioners, stakeholder groups and members of the public to support and strengthen the federal civil service and advance bold, forward-looking reforms to improve how government operates so that it can better serve the American people.

Working across presidential administrations and with cross-partisan organizations, we:

  • Develop policy recommendations steeped in deep expertise, research and consultation
  • Provide Congress and the executive branch with information and data to identify solutions to long-standing government management and operations issues
  • Craft recommendations on specific legislative and regulatory proposals
  • Educate policymakers and the public about critical issues facing the federal civil service and government operations
  • Work with current and former federal employees to ensure our policy solutions are practical and impactful

Our approach is based on 25 years of experience working to build a better government.

Government for a New Era

To build a government that delivers for the American people, we must think beyond “the way things have always been done,” develop a roadmap of constructive solutions and bring experts, new voices and policymakers together to make those solutions a reality. Our Government for a New Era initiative creates and advances policy proposals to fundamentally transform the operations of the executive branch. In tandem, we build coalitions, engage the public and lead advocacy efforts to turn these proposals from promising ideas into concrete action that enables government to work better for the American people.
